Installation/Activation FAQ

Transferring Software to new computer

Once you have received your authorization codes your software will be permanently locked to that system. Our software does not transfer. Once authorized it lives and dies with that system. We are not capable of removing or restricting the access to previously authorized software.

So ensure that the system you are installing the software on is the most optimal location for its long-term usage. The software is capable of running on Virtual Machines.

Installing CivilD as an Administrator

To install Your CIVILD module(s) you will extract your .ZIP file that was downloaded from your link and run the installer inside of the extracted folder called “INSTALL.BAT”.

Alternatively:

You may also create a folder directly on the root C:\ drive and name it “civild”, minus the quotes, all lowercase. Then take all the contents of the zip file and extract them to the new folder directly. No subfolders.

The software will only run on the C:\civild location. This is a hard rule.

After the program has been installed:

  • Go to the C:\\ Drive and locate the civild folder.
  • Inside the “civild” folder find the program that you need to run as Administrator, ex. civild.exe.
    • Right-Click the .exe
  • Select “Properties”.
    • Select the “Compatibility” tab, and select “Run this program as an administrator”.

If you are logged in as the Administrator this change will go straight through. If you are not then you will be asked to enter your administrator username and password to allow for the changes you are making.
  • The FQDN should complete. From here you would just click “OK”. If the name is not found you are not using the users Correct FQDN. If this is the case look at their username for Windows and check that this is the name you are entering and try again.
  • After clicking “OK” you will be brought back to the Permissions Panel.
  • In the Permissions Panel you need to check all the boxes available. In the Allow Column. Full Control is not needed, but ensure that Modify is selected along with Read and Write.

Troubleshooting FAQ

Module not running after authorization

Ensure you are running a module you have purchased first and foremost. Products that you own after authorization will be Green in the module listing. Programs you do not own will be Red.

Outside of this if you have followed the steps outlined in the installation instructions and you are still having issues running modules you own after authorization then a Clean Installation is the best remedy for most situations.

How to get a new copy of software

Civil Design Corp only maintains sold software bundles for 45 days. It is important for you the customer to back up your downloaded purchase and keep a copy of your authorization codes as they can always be reused with the same computer.

After this 45-day period you will have to repurchase a downloadable copy of your software for $50. If your software is not an up-to-date version you will have to repurchase a new license due to our inability to repackage older versions of the software.

Clean Installation of CivilD and LAR04

In very few instances some installations can corrupt, usually after a windows update and give you an error code that ends with calling CivilDesign for support. In this instance a clean install is generally recommended.

For this you will need to locate your original installation .ZIP, or CD.

  1. Go to the C:\\ Drive and locate the civild folder.
  2. This folder must be removed. Either delete it, or move it to a new location outside of the root C:\\ drive. You could rename the folder, but there are outlier events where the clean install did not work until the old folder is removed.
  3. After the old folder is removed you will then reinstall the software as normal.
  4. After this you will set the program to run as Administrator every time.
  5. In windows explorer open the “C:\civild” folder.
  6. Inside of the “civild” folder find the program that you need to run as Administrator, ex. civild.exe. or lar04.exe
  7. Right-Click the .exe
  8. Select “Properties”.
  9. Select the “Compatibility” tab, select “Run this program as an administrator”

You will need administrative privileges to activate the program with the codes.

  1. Close the Properties screen
  2. Right Click the same program again.
  3. Go to the “Send To” option
  4. Select “Send to Desktop as a Shortcut”.
  1. From here you will Authorize the software on first run. If you already have the codes for this you will just enter your codes and use the software. If you do not then you will fill out the Authorization PDF and send to us for authorization.

On some occasions the software will still not allow for the authorization to take place due to the folder rights of the “User” group. Follow the steps below if the clean install and Administrator run does not allow for authorization.

  1. Go to the Root C:\\ and right click the civild folder
  2. Select Properties
  3. Go to the Security tab
  4. Edit the Security parameters
  5. Give the base user account holder Modify ability
  6. Restart the program
